As part of the Volunteer Engagement Department, the Volunteer Coordinator supports and strengthens volunteer involvement across key programs, including SOVA and Senior Nutrition. Reporting to the Director of Volunteer Engagement, the Volunteer Coordinator ensures a seamless volunteer experience from application and onboarding through engagement, tracking, and recognition. The position manages volunteer systems, communications, compliance processes, and event logistics in alignment with established agency standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:                                                                     

  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Experience working with volunteer management systems or databases (Better Impact preferred).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
  • Strong customer-service orientation and comfort working with volunteers of diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; ability to learn new systems quickly
  • Prior experience in volunteer coordination, nonprofit administration, or community engagement.
  • Familiarity with compliance processes such as background checks.
  • Passion for JFSLA’s mission and commitment to supporting vulnerable communities.

RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Respond to general volunteer inquiries in partnership with the Director of Volunteer Engagement
  • Review, approve, and follow up on volunteer applications for SOVA and Senior Nutrition programs
  • Coordinate Live Scan background check processes, including tracking completion and maintaining compliance records
  • Provide timely and supportive communication to volunteers throughout the onboarding process
  • Maintain and manage the Better Impact volunteer database, including updating active and inactive volunteer statuses and ensuring accurate records
  • Generate and run database reports for program staff, HR, grants, leadership, and board requests
  • Produce monthly Better Impact reports for new volunteers and send follow-up communications regarding volunteer hour tracking
  • Provide technical assistance to volunteers related to Better Impact and logging volunteer hours
  • Send weekly or biweekly email communications regarding volunteer orientations and post-event follow-ups
  • Track volunteer participation and event attendance
  • Follow up with prospective volunteers generated through outreach and community events
  • Conduct outreach to current volunteers for holiday and one-time volunteer opportunities
  • Assist with planning and execution of volunteer events, including Volunteer Appreciation Week and summer volunteer events
  • Support volunteer trainings, including preparation, logistics, and follow-up
  • Prepare, order, and organize supplies for Volunteer Ambassador-led community events
  • Coordinate supply pick-up and drop-off with Volunteer Ambassadors
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the direct supervisor
